Pool Filter Cartridge Cleaning

The fee is $125.00 for anyone interested in a one time cleaning of their pool filters.

Cleaning a DE Filter

A filter cleaning should not be confused with a filter backwash.
Our filter cleaning includes:

  • A full disassemble on all the grids and filter internals.
  • Cleaning the internals and the inside of the tank.
  • Using an acid solution as needed to remove any calcium buildup on the grids.
  • Lubricating the backwash valve if it is a push pull or slide.
  • Checking all grids / manifold for any holes or breaks and replacing as needed*
  • Lubricating all inner o-rings
  • Resealing the tank.
  • Re-charging the filter with DE (if needed).
  • Testing for proper filtration.
    * Any additional costs may apply if replacement parts are needed.

Cleaning Cartridge Filters

There is no backwash valve on a cartridge filter because today's pool filter cartridges aren't built for backwards flow. Instead, the pump is shut off, air bleeder opened to drain the tank, lid removed, cartridge(s) removed, hosed thoroughly top to bottom, and replaced. This is a regular service to maintain the cleanliness of the filter, but we recommend replacement of your cartridges filter every three years.

As a filter ages, the length of time between necessary cleanings becomes shorter and your filter needs replacing to maintain the cleanliness of the water and to prevent the water from turning green faster.
Our filter cleaning includes:

  • 1. A full disassemble on all the cartridges and filter internals.
  • 2. Cleaning the internals and the inside of the tank.
  • 3. Using an acid solution as needed to remove any calcium buildup on the cartridges.
  • 4. Checking all cartridges / manifold for any holes, breaks, or signs of heavy wear and replacing as needed*
  • 5. Lubricating all inner o-rings
  • 6. Resealing the tank.
  • 7. Testing for proper filtration.
    * Any additional costs may apply if replacement parts are needed.

Don’t void your pool filter warranty

Filter manufacturers and swimming pool builders require regular filter cleanings to ensure their warranties are not voided. They usually recommend filter cleanings every 3-6 months depending on which type of filter, the manufacturer, and the amount of foliage around the pool.

A swimming pool filter warranty will also usually be voided by a home warranty company without proof of regular filter cleanings.

If you have home warranty coverage on your pool equipment they will usually refuse coverage on your filter repairs if you cannot demonstrate it has been well maintained with regular filter cleanings. Unfortunately, many swimming pool owners find out about this after it is too late. We use a schedule and track each cleaning for you.

Did you know filter cleanings pay for themselves?

The electricity savings alone will often cover the cost. To verify this just put a voltmeter on the filter pump motor and measure the amount of amps it is drawing when running before and after your filter cleaning.

NOTE: If you are not familiar with electricity or qualified to do this please hire a professional.

A dirty filter that has been cleaned will often drop the average pressure on the tank by 5-10psi. This increased flow through the filter means the filter pump will draw less amps or power. Since your filter pump motor is one of the biggest consumers of power in your home this savings in power will directly affect your electric bill. Why give this money to the electric company when you could have a healthier pool instead?

Often times after cleaning a filter that has not been cleaned in some time you will notice new leaks in the equipment due to better water circulation throughout the system.
